Privacy Notice

This notice explains what Gilmer County Inmate Population may collect, how that information is used, when it may be shared, and what choices visitors have. Using this site means accepting the practices described here.

Information You Send

Search Terms

Names, locations, or other details entered into a search box may be passed to the third-party provider that operates that tool. Gilmer County Inmate Population does not keep its own separate log of those search terms.

Messages

If you email us or send a message through a contact option, we use the message and any reply address to respond. We do not share that message outside our organization unless a valid legal requirement applies.

Automatic Site Data

Like most websites, this site may collect routine technical information when pages load or links are used.

  • IP address.
  • Browser name and version.
  • Device type and operating system.
  • Pages viewed and time spent on pages.
  • Referring website, when available.
  • Date and time stamps.

Cookies

Cookies and similar tools help measure how visitors use the site and support advertising or analytics features. You can block cookies in your browser, but some features may work differently after that setting is changed.

How Data Is Used

  • Keep pages available, stable, and fast.
  • Send search requests to the correct partner service.
  • Understand which custody, court, and facility pages are useful.
  • Find errors, broken links, and performance issues.
  • Support advertising that may reflect general visitor interests.

Outside Websites

This site links to WVDCR searches, sheriff and court pages, BOP and ICE locators, VINE, statutes, and third-party search tools. West Virginia public-record requests are handled by the record custodian under FOIA sections 29B-1-3 and 29B-1-4, not by this site's privacy process. Once you leave this site, the other website's privacy notice and terms control how your information is handled.

Advertising partners may use their own systems to recognize activity across websites for interest-based ads. That tracking is handled by those partners, not by a Gilmer County government office.

Who May Receive Data

We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be available to service providers or public authorities in the situations below.

  • Search partners that process a query submitted through their tool.
  • Analytics providers that measure site use.
  • Advertising networks that serve or measure ads.
  • Law enforcement, courts, or government bodies when a valid subpoena, court order, warrant, or other legal process requires it.

Security

We use reasonable security practices for a small public-information website. No internet-connected system can be promised as breach-proof, so we cannot guarantee absolute security for information sent online.

Users Under 18

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If a minor has submitted information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

Your Data Choices

  • Ask for a copy of personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct information that is wrong.
  • Ask us to delete information when retention is not required.
  • Opt out of certain processing where the law gives that right.

Notice Updates

This privacy notice may be revised from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with the new effective version reflected by the page content.
